Background

Hamdiyah Alhassan (PhD) is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Applied Economics. She is the Director of Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience and lectures in Environmental and Resource Economics, Advanced Mathematics for Economists and Mathematics for Economists. She is a development economist with interests in environmental and energy/resources economics and policy, sustainable solid waste management, green finance and behaviour and climate change adaption and mitigation.

Team Member: 2022 to date: Consultant, support to produce evidence briefs and summaries on the following topics (1) Value chain interventions for improving women’s economic empowerment: A mixed-method systematic review, (2) Gender transformative approaches in agriculture for women’s empowerment: A systematic review and (3) Effective agricultural extension methods, approaches and tools that improve women’s access to technology, knowledge and information and equally respond to the needs and demands of gender-differentiated segments of the population. A systematic review. The prime contractor is Campbell Collaboration. It is funded by The CGIAR Generating Evidence and New Directions for Equitable Results (GENDER) Platform.
  2. Team member, 2022 to date: Grant to conduct a study on “Infrastructure’s impact on nutritious diet and women’s economic empowerment. Grant received by International Centre for Evaluation and Development (ICED) and funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Team member, 2019: Consultant, to equip Farm Enterprise Advisors and Business Development Advisors with relevant knowledge, appropriate skills and positive entrepreneurial attitude that are critical for facilitating, guiding and coaching their farmers to transform their farm enterprises into profitable and sustainable business entities. It is funded by UK aid from the UK government for the Market Development (MADE) Program for Northern Ghana.
