Institute For Interdisciplinary Research - Prof Mahamudu Akudugu Takes Over From Prof. Abdulai Abubakari As Director

On Friday, September 1, 2023, Prof. Mahamudu A. Akudugu took over from Prof. Abdulai Abubakari, as the Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (IIR). Until his appointment, Prof. Mamudu Akudugu was the Deputy Director of the Institute.

At a brief handover ceremony, the outgoing Director, Prof. Abdulai Abubakari, appealed to the staff of the Institute to give the full support to the new director in order to for him to achieve the goals of the institute. He congratulated the new Director and wished him well in his new role.

The new Director, Prof. Mahamudu Akudugu, who was also recently elected as the National President of the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana, congratulated the outgoing Director for the good work he did during his tenure. He appealed to him to keep his doors open as he would be consulting him for advice from time to time.
 
WHO IS DR. MAHAMUDU A. AKUDUGU?

Prof.  Akudugu holds a PhD in Livelihoods (International and Rural Development) from the University of Reading (UoR), United Kingdom; Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana (UG), Ghana; and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Agriculture Technology from the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale – Ghana.

Until recently, Prof. Akudugu was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Consultancy Services (IIR), UDS. He was also the Head of University Consultancy Services Unit and Coordinator of the Ghana Inclusive Development Research Network (GIDRN).

Prof. Mahamudu has several years of experience in conducting interdisciplinary research and impact studies, largely employing mixed methods.

He has served as a Consultant and Independent Impact Evaluator to many national and international institutions including the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) as well as Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN). His work as a Consultant and Independent Impact Evaluator has afforded him the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge and skills in the design and implementation of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) frameworks. Dr. Akudugu is an active member of the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE), Ghana Association of Agricultural Economists (GAAE) and Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF) among other professional bodies.
